This time last year, I was sweating in Kenya. I did not at all envy my friends who were playing in the snow and hoped that this year would be a mild winter. Well, In the past 2 weeks I have seen more snow than I have in my entire life.
Here are some highlights of the South Carolina “blizzard” today:
1. Scraping the 4+ inches of snow off my car with a CD. Who needs an ice scraper anyway?
2. Apparently the weather men and women who have been warning us of the “blizzard” for the past FOUR days forgot to tell the Dept. of Transportation. Or maybe four days isn’t long enough to prepare for a “blizzard” down here in the South.
3. The small fraction of people on the road with their hazards on. I am not sure they were trying to warn me of the mounds of snow on the road, or tell me they were driving even more carefully than the rest of us.
4. The small fraction of large SUVs with Yankee license plates zipping by my Honda Accord as if to say, “Ha ha. You silly Southerners can’t drive in a few inches of snow”. We will see who is better off this summer when it’s 110 degrees with 90% humidity.
5. Walking through the doors at work (20 minutes late), only to receive a text from the Boss saying the office was closed for the day due to bad weather conditions.
6. Working for a few hours (to prove that I had braved the “blizzard” for the sake of The Company) and driving home with a great sense of accomplishment. While other cars were spinning out, I didn’t even experience the slightest skid (thanks Daddy for brand new tires this summer). I proved to myself, my mom, and Our Manager from Connecticut that I can successfully drive in the snow.
